Grade 2
🌿 Grade 2 at Aldabra Academy
Exploring connections—between ideas, places, people, and the planet.
Grade 2 at Aldabra Academy is a year of growing independence and deeper curiosity. Students begin asking more complex questions, making connections across subjects, and investigating how systems—natural, cultural, and mathematical—work together.
Following the National Geographic Educator Framework, we continue to nurture curiosity, empathy, and empowered action, while building strong academic foundations in line with BC and Alberta curricula. Asynchronous, nature-connected, and inquiry-driven, our program invites students to explore their world—and see how they are a part of it.
What to Expect:
-
🌿 Nature-Based Learning Prompts
Weekly outdoor explorations deepen students’ connection to local habitats, changing seasons, and environmental patterns. Students observe how plants and animals adapt, track weather conditions, and use field journals to document findings like young scientists.
-
🧠 Core Skill Development (Literacy, Numeracy, Social-Emotional)
We support continued progress in reading fluency, comprehension strategies, and expressive writing—including descriptive paragraphs and personal narratives. In math, students build confidence with place value to 100, skip counting, adding and subtracting with regrouping, and working with money, time, and measurement. We also introduce early multiplication through patterns and arrays.
-
🎒 Mini Learning Adventures
Each unit explores a central inquiry question tied to science or social studies—for example:
-
“How do animals survive in different environments?”
-
“How do people celebrate and remember across cultures?”
-
“How does water move through the world?”
Lessons blend reading, writing, art, math, and hands-on exploration. Students create habitat models, weather reports, cultural celebration maps, or digital slide shows to showcase their learning.
-
💬 Storytelling and Sharing
Students begin to share ideas with more detail and intention. Through written work, digital posters, or short oral presentations, they learn to explain their thinking, describe observations, and express empathy for others and the planet.
-
❤️ A Gentle Pace with Growing Independence
We support learners in planning, pacing, and reflecting on their work. While family involvement remains important, Grade 2 learners begin taking more ownership—building early skills in self-regulation and accountability.
-
✨ Parent Support Every Step of the Way
You’ll receive clear weekly plans, suggested schedules, and easy-to-use resources—including printable journal pages, video instructions, and optional enrichment ideas. We’re here to support you and your child at every step.
